Set Up A Recreational And Sitting Area In One Portion Of Your Fenced-In-Yard

by Bill Kuhn

Set up a recreational area in one portion of your fenced-in-yard for your young children to enjoy while outdoors by completing the following project. Add patio furniture that is bordered by colorful flowering plants next to the play area so that you are provided with a suitable and appealing area to sit while watching your children or spending time with friends and family.

Materials

  • rake
  • weed pulling tool
  • large shovel
  • topsoil
  • grass seed
  • sprinkler system
  • water hose
  • swing set
  • slide
  • sandbox
  • sand
  • rubber balls
  • portable soccer net
  • large paving blocks
  • measuring tape
  • patio furniture
  • potted plants

Clear The Property And Plant Grass Seed If Needed

Decide which portion of the fenced in property you would like to use as a recreational area. Use a rake to collect leaves, twigs, stones, and other types of debris. If there are any weeds growing on the property, use a weed pulling tool to remove them. If there are portions of the ground that are unlevel, add shovelfuls of topsoil to them until they are even with the rest of the property. Use a rake to assist with spreading out fresh topsoil.

Plant grass seed in any areas that are sparsely covered with blades of grass. Hook up a sprinkler system and program it to water the lawn several times a week.

Add Playground Equipment And A Paved Area

Set up a variety of playground equipment in the cleared portion of the property, such as a swing set, slide, sandbox, and soccer goal. Fill the sandbox with an even amount of sand. Purchase several rubber balls and lay them near the goal so that your children can practice kicking or throwing them to each other. Place large paving blocks next to each other in one corner of the property in order to create a square or rectangular-shaped surface. Use a measuring tape to assist with lining up the paving blocks in an even manner. Press the blocks firmly into the ground.

Arrange Patio Furniture And Potted Plants On The Paved Area

Arrange patio furniture on top of the paving blocks. Line the edges of the paved area with a variety of potted flowering plants. You will be provided with plenty of space to relax while watching your children play with the equipment that you have provided them with. During other occasions, you can entertain some of your closest friends and family members on the paved area.
