Installing A New Concrete Patio? 3 Ways To Make The Concrete Look Better

by Bill Kuhn

If you are installing a new concrete patio, concrete is a good choice as it is durable and will last a long time. If you think the concrete looks boring, however, there are many things you can do to make it look much better. Below are three of these things so you can decide what you would like to do.

Stain the Concrete

Concrete can be stained with a variety of colors. You can purchase stain at a home improvement store. This is easy to do if you have a smaller patio. If you have a large patio, you can hire a professional to do this for you.

There is also stain that you can use that mimic other surfaces. For example, there are stains that will make the concrete patio look like a tiled patio at a much lower cost. Before applying the stain, the patio must be clean and dry. You can do this by using a garden hose or a pressure washer. The stain is sprayed onto the surface in many cases, or it may be brushed or rolled.

Dress up the Patio

If you do not want to change the concrete in any way, you can dress up the patio. You can do this by adding an outdoor rug, putting outdoor furniture on the patio, and adding tables with plants and flowers on them. Consider the landscaping outside of the patio as well. You could plant a variety of bushes near the patio or plant flowers.

You could place a beautiful pergola next to the patio. This can increase the size of the patio as it can give people another place to sit. There are outdoor couches and lounge chairs, or an outdoor rocking chair. Put a trellis next to the patio and plant climbing vines and flowers.

Paint the Concrete

To completely transform the concrete and make it look completely different you can paint it. There is outdoor paint that is made for concrete that you can use for this. You can then roll on the paint and use a hand brush to get the paint around the edges and corners.

Choose a paint color that matches well to your home, your trim, or shudders. You could also choose a completely different color to make the patio stand out. No matter what you choose, make sure the patio is clean and dry before you paint it. When you are finished, and the paint is dry, put a sealant over the paint to protect it.

Your new patio will look even more beautiful after you make these changes. To find out more, contact concrete patio services.
